THE STAFFS …. and their wishes for the children

Isti N. Saptiono, Jakarta
You never know that one of these children will be our future president. Give them a chance to prove it!!

I believe that these children, given the same opportunity to get proper education, proper access to information, will become the real power to bring their colleagues out of the marginal and poverty areas.

Education is an individual right that all nations recognize. Basic education should be accessible to all children, including street and marginal children. Street children are just victims of unwanted situation, and they should not suffer any discrimination in access to learning opportunities. I feel very lucky to be involved in the process of giving their chance for brighter future, since education is the only way to help these children break the vicious circle of poverty and survival in the street.
Ramida, Jakarta
It’s difficult to get free education in this country……, Through us, We will struggle to get it!
Marryah Tinambunan
They don’t need your money, but anything you have. Just give it to support their education.
Yuniati Evie Rahayu
A child is like a jewel. Let them grow to find their personal identity. Learn from their experiences. We must protect and open a broader space for them.

Anak adalah manusia. Biarkan mereka berkembang untuk mencari jati dirinya. Belajar dari pengalaman hidupnya. Kita patut menjaga dan membuka ruang luas untuknya.

Mestinar Tinambunan
Their small hands will carved a part of this world. I believe it cause nothing is impossible.
Relinna Sihotang
I wish every sponsored children are able to continue to help their siblings to continue their education.
Ida Rupaedah
I wish every child get their right according to convention of Children Right.
Mareta Kusumaningrum
ISCO… walking on hope for making the children dreams come true to grasp a brighter future.ISCO… Melangkah bersama harapan… mewujudkan mimpi anak-anak untuk memenangkan masa depan.
Rita Handayani Batubara
Perhaps, they are unlucky children, but I do wish someday they’ll became success person with us and your support.
Julinda Dewi S.
Through ISCO and me, I hope this nation youth can have a better future for their generation and the upcoming generation. Then…. Indonesia will revive.
Novita Herikristanti
I hope through ISCO, the children can have better choice to determining their future, because ISCO gives them the access with education scholarship. So that poorness vicious circle can be broken. Also, through ISCO, education commercialization can be eliminated.
Sutomo
Indonesia needs a new people, who are honest, enthusiastic, believe in success, mastering technology and science, and having entrepreneurships ethos. I wish ISCO became the place to seedling this people.
Isnarni
I hope, ISCO children’s can succeed and have a better morality.

Riyan
I hope the center (Children Activity Center) become the second home for the children, where they can play and learn knowledge in a fun way. So ISCO children’s have skill, which is equal like other children whose parents that can afford their needs.
Eva Andriyani
I hope all children will seize their whishes and in the future, they can raise their standard of living.

Sugiyanti
For the coming years, I wish ISCO still give scholarship to ISCO children’s who has graduated from high school into university level.

Sumiarti
The success of the children is determined by their creative capacity and they needs education to get them. Active learning at ISCO center’s can build their intellectual ability. With the knowledge they can get their dreams to become a leader and a role model for many people.
Hotlin
Children can do what the adult can’t. Their bravery to face the hard life and their unfinished family problems proved that we couldn’t underestimate them. And they’ll become the Next Soekarno (The first President Indonesia) later on. So give them the chance. Never talk about the world future, if there is no chance is given to these amazing children.
Anwar
My hope is, one of ISCO Children’s in Belawan become a doctor. She/he will take care of the sick fishermen. Because the fishermen income is very small, so they don’t have to pay much money if they’ve get sick. Coz to have cheap healthiness is their right.

      Hi Fawzia,

We thank you for your kind intention to be a volunteer in ISCO Foundation, an independent and non-government organization. First of all, we want to explain in brief about ISCO and how to be a volunteer in ISCO. Until now, we have 17 sponsored slummy areas in Jakarta ( West, East, North and South Jakarta). At those areas, we have the children activity center or in Indonesia is called Sanggar Kegiatan Anak (SKA).

The functions of this center are:
      1. Strengthening school lessons for children (tutoring)
      2. Skills and arts for talent search of children
      3. Instilling the value of life, which is rarely touched by the approach of the school and parents
      4. Balancing nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

      Children Activities in Sanggar:
      1. Our activities are conducted from Monday to Saturday at 08.00s / d 16:00 (except Saturday, activity is held until at 12.00)
      2. Children of our current assistance from the age of 6 years to 16 years (kindergarten until high school grade 3) they came to the center in order to each day alternating schedule.
      3. Activities above (center functions or points 1- 4) are done every day in accordance with the subject specified.

      How to become a volunteer?

Someone who wants to be a volunteer at ISCO Foundation can do the activity by the followings:
      1. Spending time one day as scheduled in Children Activities
      2. Determining the subject who controlled that can be shared to children in accordance with the ability of the person, and the level of assisting our children (can be skill, English language, and school lessons)
      3. Making a commitment to volunteer time (e.g for 3 months, 1 time a week or according to the ability of the person).

From above explanation, I want to ask you:
      1. What kind of voluntary that you can do at ISCO ? Is it teaching or what else?
      2. If you want to teach, what kind of subject can you teach?
      3. How long are you going to be a volunteer at ISCO?
      4. Where do you live now? Give us your complete address.

If you want to ask further info, do not hesitate to contact our office, for further coordination with Julinda at 021 7222008. We look forward to your coming to our office.

      Thanks.

  2. Dear Mr/Ms
Hi, my name is Vivi. I am a teacher at Aljabr Islamic School. My students and I are learning about how children worldwide face a variety of challenges and risks. We would like to know more information about how your organization helps street children in Indonesia. If possible, we also would like to visit or invite one of your representative to be our guest speaker about the function and responsibility of your organization.
I am looking forward your reply as we will start to learn next week April 11th 2011.
    Thank you for your kindness.
    Vivi

    • equalchance says:

      Dear Vivi,

ISCO Foundation (known as Yayasan ISCO in Bahasa Indonesia) is an independent a non-government organization, established in 1999 in response to the devastating social impact resulting from the economic and monetary crisis that occurred in Indonesia in the late 1990’s and dedicated to improve the quality of life of street children through education. For hundreds of Indonesia’s poorest children, ISCO is the reason that they can go to school, have an equal chance in life and dare to have dreams for their future.

ISCO began helping children in the areas of Kampung Jembatan (Cipinang Besar Selatan/East Jakarta) and Manggarai (South Jakarta), where children were forced to work on the streets, and often dropped out of school because their parents could not afford the fees and other expenses.

Through a network of field teams located in some of the worst affected neighbourhoods of Indonesia’s cities, the organization strives to help marginal communities, those who live in poverty, and those who are suffering most deeply due to the ongoing crisis.

ISCO’s particular focus is on the children of these families, who face serious obstacles in their struggle to achieve the productive futures that are accepted as normal by most middle class families. ISCO believes that all children deserve the chance to achieve their maximum potentials as productive, responsible and caring citizens and leaders of Indonesia.

Today ISCO operates in 29 areas – 17 in Greater Jakarta, 8 areas in Surabaya and 4 areas in Medan. 2,201 children are currently sponsored, most of whom are between the ages of 5 and 12 years. ISCO monitors each child’s educational development progress individually and maintains a close relationship with each family.

ISCO vision is to give an equal chance for education, development, dignity and hope for the future to every child. ISCO mission is to prevent Indonesia’s marginalized children from becoming street children or child laborer and to provide support and access for these children to obtain a better education and the benefits that education brings to them and to their families. So that, we have 5 significant programs:

      1. Education Support
      2. Children Activity Center
      3. Health and Nutrition Program
      4. Pre-school program
      5. Children Right and Advocacy

For further info, you can contact Merry as the operational manager of ISCO by email at bmarryah@yahoo.com or by mobile phone to 0812.8331.459 or our office at 021.7222.008. Thank you.

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Puspa Rahmawati, an elementary teacher at Sekolah Cikal. Currently, my students in Grade 5 are doing a project on their responsibility to the education in Indonesia, particularly Jakarta. They are also finding out information on how organizations play a role in supporting education. Would it be possible if my students could interview your officers to know more about the role of organizations? Other than that, two of my students are interested in contributing their responsibility to education, in what way would it be possible?
